Be Hawesome

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you to everyone for supporting the postponed Jog-A-Thon last FriYay! A special shout-out to our amazing PTSA Board and volunteers for helping with planning, set-up, cheering, water station, and generally being the point people for all that was needed. The students ran their best and it was a great start to the day.

Dr. Seuss Day will be Monday 3/2/26 ... have your child dress up in their favorite Dr. Seuss or book character. K/1 classes will be doing many literacy activities all week. Join in the spirit!

Coming this week - Join us for an evening of fun as we watch Despicable Me 3 together as a school on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Event Details:
Gates open at 5:00 PM
Movie starts at 6:00 PM
Free popcorn will be provided!
Pizza
To help make the night run smoothly, we strongly encourage families to pre-order pizza and cake walk tickets on the PTSA website. Pizza will be available to order at Movie Night but it will be first come first serve and there is a chance that we will sell out.
The deadline to pre-order pizza is March 5th.
Don’t forget to bring your own chairs or blankets so your family can relax and enjoy the show comfortably.

Please drive safely: Our office received a call last week complaining about fast driving speeds in and around school. Rocky Mountain and McKinley street neighbors would appreciate drivers adhering to the 25 MPH speed limits. at all times. Thanks for making our community safe!

Thank you for getting your child to school every day and on time! As you know we are striving to reach our goal of 98% attendance rate school-wide this year. We are at about 96%. Congratulations to Mrs. Volk's class last month for having the highest attendance rate of 98.53%. I will be giving their class 10 minutes extra recess this week.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th-grade Enrollment is currently open for the 2026–27 school year for new students joining Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD). Please pass on the news to your neighbors and friends. Hawes remains committed to providing an Hawesome educational experience at our amazing school!

In Partnership Always,

PBIS Positive Behavior Update - Catching Hawks Doing the Right Thing!

Thanks to our playground supervisors for recognizing Mrs. Cook's and Mrs Garton's classes for outstanding lunch table behavior. They received local restaurant coupons, a class certificate, and a small RalphE plushie to proudly display in their classroom for the month. We appreciate how well all the the students are respecting the unstructured times at school. Honorable mention to Mrs. Born's and Mrs. Tucker's classes, too!

All our fourth and fifth grade classes continue to choose 'open seating' on FriYay's. A reward they have earned for showing respectful lunch table behavior this year.

Together, we are building a positive, supportive school community where every child can thrive. We appreciate your support at home. Together we are SOARing high!

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU for doing all you can to bring your child to school every day and to minimize the amount of time they are absent due to vacations etc. We appreciate you taking trips during non-student days whenever possible.

Independent Study Contracts If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:
  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.

NO OTHER PARENTS ARE ALLOWED TO WALK THROUGH OFFICE TO PICK UP SIBLINGS, RATHER THEY WALK OUTSIDE TO PICK UP THROUGH THE GATES. (If a child is in K and there are older siblings to be picked up, please exit to the front of school and walk through the library gate, not through the front office.)
