Be Hawesome

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you to parents who came to help out on rainy days last week. We appreciate your support ... and at the very last minute, too!

We're so proud of our 4th and 5th graders for consistently showing respect and responsibility during lunchtime! Their positive behavior truly stands out, and as a result, they have earned Open Seating Fridays as a special privilege.

Even more importantly, they are setting a wonderful example for our younger students - showing what it looks like to be respectful, kind, and ready to make great choices every day. Way to lead the way, Hawes Hawks!

Awards Recognition Assembly will be 2/27/26 at 8:45-9:05 am. We will have a shortened assembly due to the Jog-A-Thon the same day. Please join us to recognize our SOARing students!

Jog-A-Thon postponed to 2/27/26. This year's theme, "Light Up Our School," supports a special campus improvement project: replacing our front school marquee so we can continue sharing important updates, celebrating students, and welcoming families to our school. The Jog-A-Thon will be a FUN event for both the students and families. Please adhere to the expectations so we can all focus on the students running. In appreciation, Thank you in advance to all of you who have volunteered to help out at the event.

Jog-A-Thon Schedule
Two tracks will be set up, and ALL GRADES will run from 8:45 am - 9:15 am.

On Jog-A-Thon day parents will enter through the front gate by the library. No younger siblings/babies/strollers/etc. will be allowed to attend. Please visit www.hawesptsa.org for more information.

Dr. Seuss Day will be Monday 3/2/26 ... have your child dress up in their favorite Dr. Seuss character or book. This was postponed from 2/27/26 due to the Jog-A-Thon. Students are invited to wear their Jog-A-Thon t shirts on this coming Friday!

School Site Council (SSC) Meeting on Thursday, 2/26.26 at 7:45-8:15 am. We thank our SSC members for taking the time to oversee our school plans and budgets. Your commitment, insight, and partnership help ensure we are making the best decisions for our students and school community. We truly appreciate your time and dedication in supporting the success of every Hawes Hawk.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th-grade Enrollment is currently open for the 2026–27 school year for new students joining Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD). Please pass on the news to your neighbors and friends. Hawes remains committed to providing an Hawesome educational experience at our amazing school!

In Partnership Always,

Dr. Hansell

PBIS Positive Behavior Update - Catching Hawks Doing the Right Thing!

At Hawes, we are excited to share that our positive behavior points continue to greatly outweigh behavior referrals - currently at an amazing 3:1 positive points for every referral!

This tells us that students are practicing our SOAR expectations: Respect-Own Actions-Always be Kind-Ready To Learn and our staff is consistently recognizing those great choices.

Thank you for reinforcing kindness, responsibility, and respect at home. Your partnership makes a big difference in helping our Hawes Hawks SOAR each day.

Together, we are building a positive, supportive school community where every child can thrive.

THANK YOU!

Inclement Weather Dismissal: All gates will be opened (back gate, TK/K gate, and front library gate). Students are picked up from the classrooms. NO OTHER PARENTS ARE ALLOWED TO WALK THROUGH OFFICE TO PICK UP SIBLINGS, RATHER THEY WALK OUTSIDE TO PICK UP THROUGH THE GATES. (If a child is in K and there are older siblings to be picked up, please exit to the front of school and walk through the library gate, not through the front office.) This will be added to the Handbook. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Upcoming After School Program: Thanks to our amazing PTSA, Hawes is able to offer some wonderful after school opportunities to students in grades 1-5. Please take a look at the upcoming classes being offered and register accordingly.
