Be Hawesome

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you to those of you who volunteered on field trips last week. Thanks to first grade parents on the walking field trip - Ketrin Adam, Kelly Adsit, Meagan Dolan, Elizabeth Reid, Janet Sutherland, Erica Swanson, Pamela Tsaksumakis, Joanna Valente, Ashley Van, and Jacquelyn Wilson. Thanks to fourth grade parents who braved the weather to pan for gold in Irvine - Stephanie Ahlstrand, Amy Wilson, Kira Babb, Nicole Busse, Natali Carano, Michelle Haller, Heather Hellman, Jessica Mastagni, and Ashleigh Wyness.

Jog-A-Thon on 2/20/26. This year's theme, "Light Up Our School," supports a special campus improvement project: replacing our front school marquee so we can continue sharing important updates, celebrating students, and welcoming families to our school. The Jog-A-Thon will be a FUN event for both the students and families.

Jog-A-Thon Schedule
Two tracks will be set up, and ALL GRADES will run from 8:45 am - 9:15 am.

On Jog-A-Thon day parents will enter through the front gate by the library. No younger siblings/babies/strollers/etc. will be allowed to attend. Please visit www.hawesptsa.org for more information.

We will notify you on Thursday if the rain forces us to postpone to the following Friday 2/27/26 after the Awards Assembly at 9:15-9:45 am. Stay tuned and thanks for your understanding!

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th-grade Enrollment is currently open for the 2026–27 school year for new students joining Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD).

What are Major Versus Minor PBIS Behaviors?

In HBCSD and at Hawes, we use PBIS to help students learn positive behaviors in a supportive, consistent way. Minor behaviors (such as talking out of turn, not following directions, or small disruptions) are handled by the classroom teacher through reminders, reteaching expectations, and restorative strategies. Major behaviors (such as repeated defiance, physical aggression, unsafe actions, or serious disruptions) are referred to the principal for administrative support.

Families will be notified when a behavior moves beyond a classroom warning by teacher email. You will also hear from me (and maybe your child) if it requires administrative involvement. Our goal is always to partner with families to support growth, accountability, and success for every student. Click on the link below to view the form titled Hawes Defining Behaviors. Thanks for your support in helping your child SOAR and for BEING HAWESOME!

In Partnership Always,

Dr. Fran Hansell (Principal)
