What is PBIS and Why Are We Using It At Hawes?

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you to all of you who came out to support the amazing Choir presentation of Finding Nemo. We are so grateful to Mrs. Girardet and her time and talent. Special thanks to; Kira Babb, Kristen Hardin, Brooke Fairman, Chelsea Quinlan, Sarah Kreig, Alaleh Khosrowpour, Kimmy Greer, Emily Selna, and Mike Greer.

At Hawes Elementary, we are committed to creating a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment where every child can SOAR. This year, we are strengthening that commitment through HBCSD endorsed PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports - a school-wide approach that teaches, models, and reinforces positive behavior. PBIS focuses on clear expectations, kindness, responsibility, and recognizing students when they make great choices. Instead of only responding when challenges arise, PBIS helps to proactively build strong habits, celebrate positive actions, and support students socially, and emotionally - just like we do academically.

Together as a school community, we're helping our Hawes Hawks grow into respectful, responsible, and ready-to-learn learners every day.

How can families support PBIS at home?
You can help by:
*Talking about school expectations
*Praising positive choices
*Modeling kindness and responsibility
*Encouraging problem-solving and respectful conversation

Through PBIS, we are building a community where all students feel safe, valued, and ready to learn - so every Hawes Hawk can SOAR!

Please support PTSA Perry's Pizza Dine-Out on 2/10/26. Join us for our next Dine-Out where they specialize in heart-shaped pizzas for Valentine's Day week. We hope to see you there!

Jog-A-Thon on 2/20/26. This year's theme, "Light Up Our School," supports a special campus improvement project: replacing our front school marquee so we can continue sharing important updates, celebrating students, and welcoming families to our school. The Jog-A-Thon will be a FUN event for both the students and families.

Jog-A-Thon Schedule
Two tracks will be set up, and ALL GRADES will run from 8:45 am - 9:15 am.

On Jog-A-Thon day parents will enter through the front gate by the library. No younger siblings/babies/strollers/etc. will be allowed to attend. Please visit www.hawesptsa.org for more information.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th-grade Enrollment for the 2026–27 school year opens Friday, February 13, 2026, at 9:00 AM for new students joining Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD).

In Partnership Always,

Dr. Fran Hansell (Principal)
