Be Hawesome

Thank You

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you for a great Hawktoberfest event! A big shout out to Stephanie Ahlstrand, Kira Babb, and Michelle Haller for all of your help. Also, to all of the volunteers who helped out at Hawktoberfest, we couldn't have done it without you! Thank you to all the teachers and staff who participated in the 'Flush Tank', joined the 'minion' parade, and volunteered their time to help. Hawes is truly a great school community that comes together in fun and fellowship! We all had a blast!

Thank you to student council members (Liam V., Liam K., Marley, Portia, Justin, Libby, Garrett, Lucy, Nalani, Zoey, Savanna, ), teacher leaders (Mrs.De Stefano, Mrs. Rocha), and all the parents who brought the students to the School Board meeting last week. It was indeed a pleasure to witness such enthusiastic, confident student leaders presenting their SOAR cheer. Positive cheer pins were shared with the Board and Executive Board members, designed and made by student council members to promote good citizenship and appreciation for a positive mindset.

Thank you to our rainy day helpers: Ashley Cogman, Ani Oshiro, Ellie Johnson, Christine Grossman, Rola Elhurr, Don and Kelly Rizzi, Amy Allison, Ashley Andrade, Pamela Roumeliotis, Grace Pham, Vanessa Egan, Jennifer Sullivan, and Andi Morris.

Thank you to our running club helpers: Kelly Soemantoro (chairperson), Kristie Williams-Yowell, Jacob Ramirez, Sarah Kreig, Kristin Becking, Betsy Olson, and Robbie Maier.

Cousin Danny came and entertained Hawes with three assemblies last FriYay. His message of happiness, and movement/dance for a healthy life was well received by all students TK-5. Thanks to PTSA for funding this opportunity.

FIRST TRIMESTER SPIRIT DAYS
  • October 31 - Crazy Day (wear crazy socks, hair, hats, etc.)
  • November 21 - Western Day (wear your boots, hats, etc.)
  • December 19 - Pajama Day (wear your favorite cozy PJ's)

Thank you for reinforcing the SOAR (Show Respect, Own Your Actions, Always Be Kind, and Ready to Learn) behaviors with your child at home. The consistency will help to instill the values in your child and our partnership is essential in giving a clear and consistent message to all the students. This week we are focusing on being Ready to Learn.

In Gratitude,

Dr. Fran Hansell

School Information

Information and Details

Thursdays will be Early Dismissal every week!
TK - 12:10
K/3 - 1:26
4/5 - 1:35
Thank you for making a note of this and for planning to pick your child up on time.

*PLEASE note Tuesday and Thursday this week will be early dismissal days due to conferences. Wednesday is a non-student day.

Arrival time no earlier than 8:15 am! Please do not drop off your child early, as there is no supervision. Thank you!

After-School Programs Please make sure you notify the office and your child's teacher with any changes after school. It is important that you pick up your child on time from school and/or from any after school program. Please note that the Y does not inform school of a change, that is your responsibility each week. Thank you!

Bikes Please make sure your child always brings a helmet if they are riding their bike to school. Please remind your child to walk their bike on campus and through the park at all times. I am still witnessing some students riding their bikes through the park after they walk through the back gate at Dismissal. As a courtesy, we ask that you remind your child to walk their bike for safety. Thank you.

Absent? Please contact the office We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks. Please make plans for day trips to Disneyland etc. for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent form work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home. Students must be fever, vomit, and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or calling the school office at : 714.963.8302 then press 1.

Independent Study Contracts If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:
  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date.
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of your teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together.
