Be Hawesome

Thank You

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you for coming to the first Recognition Assembly last Friday. It was wonderful to recognize 56 students TK-5 for their outstanding SOAR Behavior) S-Show Respect, O-Own Your Actions, A-Always Be Kind, and R-Ready to Learn. What a surprise for everyone with an appearance form Ralph-E :) Many thanks to Mrs. Girardet who led the students in signing the school song.

We are actively seeking people to sign-up for the district sub pool. If you are interested or know of anyone who might be a good fit, and is looking for -part-time work, please ask them to reach out to HR to find out about applying, Thank you in advance!

I am excited to attend a training this week in Riverside on High Reliability Schools with our district personnel. At Hawes we are flying high and we know we can SOAR even higher ... stay tuned.

Please make sure you notify your child's teacher and the front office of any changes with Dismissal pick-ups for your child. It is essential that students get picked up on time and that changes are communicated as they occur. Please do not wait until the afternoon to notify the teacher/office, as they are busy working and may not see the message in time. We understand there may be emergency circumstances but whenever possible please notify us in a timely manner. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

So many students showed school spirit last Friday in their Disney + attire. It really brings our school community together and we appreciate Student Council, Mrs. De Stefano, and Mrs. Rocha for their planning and preparation. Here are the following monthly Dress Up Days for your information.

FIRST TRIMESTER
  • October 31 - Crazy Day (wear crazy socks, hair, hats, etc.)
  • November 21 - Western Day (wear your boots, hats, etc.)
  • December 19 - Pajama Day (wear your favorite cozy PJ's)

You may see four orange cones in the front parking lot by the TK/K gate area. PLEASE walk onto the campus in between the cones for safety. We appreciate you not crossing the staff parking lot (by the bus zone) with your children. Please make sure you do not leave your bike where the bus drop-off area is ... thank you!

We look forward to seeing you at the Family Picnic on 10/10 (not 10/3) ... the Air Show is loud and may not be conducive for conversation at the picnic, so we hope to see you the following Friday. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for reinforcing the SOAR behaviors with your child at home. The consistency will help to instill the values in your child and our partnership is essential in giving a clear and consistent message to all the students. Hawes Hawks are doing a great job and it truly takes a village!

Don't forget to sign-up for a conference with your child's teacher. It will be a great opportunity to hear about all the learning that has been going on during the first few months of the school year. Please reach out to your child's teacher with any questions about your child.

In Gratitude,

Dr. Fran Hansell

Bikes Please make sure your child always brings a helmet if they are riding their bike to school.

Absent? Please contact the office We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks. Please make plans for day trips to Disneyland etc. for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent form work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home. Students must be fever, vomit, and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or calling the school office at : 714.963.8302 then press 1.

Independent Study Contracts If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:
  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date.
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of your teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together.
