Be Hawesome

Thank You

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you for coming to Back-to-School Night!. It was wonderful to see so many of our families together, building connections and celebrating the start of a great year ahead. Your partnership means so much to us at Hawes!

We also want to extend our gratitude to the four applicants for School Site Council. Two will be recommended to the Council for approval. We are grateful for all their willingness to serve and support our school community.

As part of my service as the Orange County- Council of Elementary Education Leaders (CEEL) representative for ACSA region 17, I will be in Sacramento on 9/25/25. It is truly my joy to do this work, even as I am truly sorry to miss our first PTSA general meeting and Skate Night, but I look forward to being back on 9/26/25 for our first recognition assembly. The voice of our Hawes Hawks is with me in this work and I look forward to sharing our distinguished school with my colleagues in the state, as together we support statewide initiatives for elementary schools and public education. Thank you for your partnership and support.

We are looking for one more amazing playground supervisor! If you know of anyone who might be looking for part-time work and may be a good candidate, please let us know.

Please encourage your child/ren to show their spirit each month for Student Council sponsored Dress-Up Days as follows:

FIRST TRIMESTER
  • September 26 - Disney+ Day (dress up like your favorite Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, or Superhero character)
  • October 31 - Crazy Day (wear crazy socks, hair, hats, etc.)
  • November 21 - Western Day (wear your boots, hats, etc.)
  • December 19 - Pajama Day (wear your favorite cozy PJ's)

Thank you, families, for all your do to support and uplift our amazing school. We really are better together, and our students thrive when we work hand in hand. As your principal, I feel such humble pride in being part of this incredible community. Your partnership makes all the difference.

With gratitude,

Dr. Fran Hansell (Principal)

School Information

Information and Details

Thursdays will be Early Dismissal every week!
TK - 12:10
K/3 - 1:26
4/5 - 1:35
Thank you for making a note of this and for planning to pick your child up on time.

Parking Lot Safety - Bus Ramp Effective 9/22/25 buses will be dropping off and picking up students at the bus ramp (in front of TK/K gate). Cars only will be in the valet line. We hope this will alleviate traffic and help the flow of traffic. PLEASE MONITOR YOUR CHILD/REN AND DO NOT PARK IN STAFF PARKING LOT. If you have a Handicap placard in your car, please come into the office for details.

Arrival time no earlier than 8:15 am! Please do not drop off your child early, as there is no supervision. Thank you!

TK Dismissal - Back gate Effective 9/22/25 TK students will be dismissed by their teachers at the back gate. This is a safer option for students to play, if parents like to chat after school.

E-Bikes/E-Scooters Please make sure your child always brings a helmet if they are riding their bike/scooter to school.

Absent? Please contact the office We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks. Please make plans for day trips to Disneyland etc. for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent form work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home. Students must be fever, vomit, and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or calling the school office at : 714.963.8302 then press 1.

Independent Study Contracts If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:
  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date.
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of your teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together.

School Site Council Thank you for casting your vote on the SSC ballot at BTSN. Thank you to all four applicants Courtney Kelley (9 votes), AnneMarie (Turpin) Vickers (6 votes), Bryce Van (1 vote), and Betsy Olson (15 votes) for having great bio's available. We will be taking forward Courtney and Betsy for approval at the first School Site Council meeting this fall. We appreciate the community support for these important roles.
