Thank You

Dear Hawes Families,

Thank you for an incredible first two weeks of school! Your support, positivity, and partnership have made the start to our year one filled with energy, joy, and learning.

A BIG shout-out to our following amazing PTSA and parent volunteers:
Thanks to Carrie Piscotty for making the first day of school celebration fun and festive and all the parent volunteers who come to help: Joe Piscotty, Sarah Kreig, Jeniece Harris, Lana Blankenship, April Bassett, and Alaleh Khosrowpour; to Sarah Kreig for arranging the Kona Ice Trucks; to all the parent volunteers who spent their last week of summer organizing the school folders and flyers: Christine Grossman, Derek Grossman, April Bassett, Mary Wilson, Jennifer Minevich, Karolina Tyra-Baxter, Kristin Becking, Sarah Kreig, and Sarah Belitz; to Kira Babb for hosting the welcome back luncheon for all the teachers before school started; to Alice Needham for her 'behind the scenes' work and; AND to our amazing PTSA Board led by President Kristen Hardin!

We look forward to welcoming you to our Back-to-School Night this week 9/18/25. This adult-only evening is an important time to connect with your child's teacher, hear about classroom expectations, and learn how we can work together to ensure every student thrives.

Your presence makes a difference, and we hope to see you there!

With gratitude,

Dr. Fran Hansell (Principal)

We hope this will alleviate traffic and help the flow of traffic. PLEASE MONITOR YOUR CHILD/REN AND DO NOT PARK IN STAFF PARKING LOT. If you have a Handicap placard in your car, please come into the office for details.

Arrival time no earlier than 8:15 am! Please do not drop off your child early, as there is no supervision. Thank you!

TK Dismissal - Back gate Effective 9/22/25 TK students will be dismissed by their teachers at the back gate. This is a safer option for students to play, if parents like to chat after school.

E-Bikes/E-Scooters Please remind your child NOT TO RIDE THEIR E-VEHICLES ON CAMPUS AT ANY TIME FOR SAFETY!

Absent? Please contact the office We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks. Please make plans for day trips to Disneyland etc. for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent form work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home. Students must be fever, vomit, and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or calling the school office at : 714.963.8302 then press 1.

Independent Study Contracts If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:
  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date.
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of your teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together.

School Site Council Please let Dr. Hansell know if you are interested in joining the council for two years. We have two open parent spaces (I have one applicant). Deadline to notify me of your interest will be 9/19/25 by 3:00 pm.
Counselor Corner Welcome to a new and exciting school year! As part of the school counseling program, our counselor Ms. Samoniantz, will be visiting classrooms throughout the year to provide engaging social-emotional lessons. These lessons explore essential skills that can encourage students to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and make responsible choices.

For the month of September, Ms. Samoniantz will be starting off the year with a "Meet the School Counselor" lesson, where she will introduce herself and explain what her role as a school counselor consists of. Pleas reach out to her with any questions regarding classroom guidance lessons at asamoniantz@hbcsd.us

Thank you!
