School Report: Eader Elementary School

Eader Elementary will share an update on school programs, initiatives, and activities.
Facility Naming Committee Recommendation Public Hearing & Recommendation

The District received a formal request to name the Sowers STEM Building in honor of Bill and Rebbie Bates. In accordance with Board Policy 7310 and following direction from the Board of Trustees on October 8, 2024, a Facility Naming Committee was convened with representation from across the District to review the proposal and develop a recommendation for Board consideration.

The committee unanimously recommends that the Board of Education approve the request to name the Sowers STEM Building in recognition of Bill and Rebbie Bates, with a plaque contingent upon funding from donations. The policy requires a public hearing to be conducted regarding the proposal before Board consideration of the item later in the agenda.

2025-2026 Proposition 28 Arts Education Plans

In accordance with California’s Proposition 28: The Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act, HBCSD has finalized school site plans for the 2025–2026 school year, based on the 2024–2025 allocation. This voter-approved initiative provides dedicated, ongoing funding to support arts and music instruction at every school site.

Between February and April 2025, each school’s Site Council reviewed and approved a customized spending plan, reflecting both current-year funds and any prior-year carryover. Highlights of the plans include hiring certificated art teachers, bringing in short-term arts and dance instructors, and purchasing instructional materials to enhance arts and music programming across all campuses.
The proposed budgets comply with Proposition 28 guidelines and support meaningful student enrichment opportunities. Individual site plans are publicly available and posted on the District website.

In preparation for the recruitment of a new Executive Director of Technology Services, the District has reviewed and revised the job description for this key leadership role. The previous description had not been updated since 2015 and no longer fully reflected the essential duties and evolving responsibilities required to lead our technology services department.

The position is currently vacant, and the revised job description ensures that the role aligns with current District needs, systems, and expectations. There is no fiscal impact associated with this update.
