Here are some of the key events and things to know:

5th grade to outdoor science school: On Tuesday morning, our 5th graders will be departing for outdoor science school. They will return mid-day on Friday.

Valet Drop off on Tuesday morning: Due to loading of buses for outdoor science school, our valet drop off will occur in front of the 5th grade portables rather than the main building. Please do not plan to park in our parking lot and all cars will exit through the driveway by our crosswalk. Thank you for planning ahead and giving yourself extra time.

Art Class is this week

TK Mother's Day Tea: is on Thursday. Please look for more details from your child's teacher.

K-5 Parent Picnic: is scheduled for Friday, May 16. This event will occur during normal lunch times. Parents of students in kindergarten through grade 5 are invited to bring lunch and have a picnic with their child. Please remember that non-school age, non-Hawes students (babies, toddlers, etc.) are not permitted to attend due to liability and the nature of this event.

May MegaSkills Family Activity Challenge: will be sent home this week and is due on Friday, May 30 for students to earn a brag tag! This will be the last challenge for the year.

AYSO Region 56 soccer season registration is now open and early bird rates are available until May 31. AYSO is a non-profit, all volunteer run youth soccer program that has served the South Huntington Beach community for 50 years. You can sign up now at ayso56.org.

We are now accepting registrations for the upcoming school year. This is for all new, incoming students. If you currently attend TK, your enrollment information will be sent to your home school in the spring and you do NOT need to re-register.

If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:

We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks we have in place. As well, please make plans for day trips to Disneyland and other places for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent from work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home to recover. Students must be fever, vomit and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or by calling the school office at: 714.963.8302 then press 1.

The talent show registration deadline is tomorrow, May 5!
