The Details for the Week:
Here are some of the key events and things to know:

Art class is this week.

Jog-a-thon tshirts: Today, January 19 is the LAST day to order our presale Color Me Hawesome tshirts!

Harvest of the Month: is Thursday. This month our students will learn about and have the opportunity to taste watermelon radish.

PTSA Meeting on Thursday at 8:45 am: This Friday is the end of attendance month 5. Students who have had perfect attendance - no absences, no tardies, and no early outs - will receive a brag tag for the month! We are hoping to have LOTS of students who earn this recognition since this attendance month is so short!

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday: is Monday, January 20. This is a school holiday and we are closed.

CA Healthy Kids Survey for 5th Grade Students: It is the time of year when we, once again, are asked to participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). The window for survey administration is February 24-28, 2025. Our district is using "active" consent permission slips with our families of 5th graders. The active consent form is crucial to the success of this survey. Even if parents/guardians do not want their child to participate, we must have the consent form back. These forms were already sent home to you. Please help us by completing the form and returning it your your child's teacher.

January MegaSkills Family Activity Challenge is attached . This month we will focus on teaching our students about initiative (moving into action) and focus (showing concern for others). Students who complete 4 or more activities and return the form will receive a brag tag.

Color Me Hawesome! Jog-a-thon Presale Tshirts
We have scheduled our Color Me Hawesome jog-a-thon for Friday, February 21 at 1:45. This event will be held at the end of the day due to the nature of this event - a color run! TK students are invited to join us at dismissal and all other grade levels will be ending the day on the field.

Presale t-shirts are available NOW through Sunday, January 19 (one week only). Get yours now as they are only available for ONE week! A portion of the cost of the t-shirt will be returned to the Hawes PTSA!
School Accountability Report Card
Our School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is now posted on the HBCSD District website under the "About" tab. Navigate to School Accountability Report Cards and click on our school name on the bottom of the page. Our SARC is also posted on our school website (https://hawes.hbcsd.us/). The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about our school and to report our school’s progress in achieving goals. Hard copies of the report are available upon request by contacting our school office.
Attendance month 5 - perfect attendance
Attendance month 5 is our shortest attendance month of the school year. Despite being in the middle of cold season and have way too many absences on Friday (leading up to a three day weekend), we have 310 students who have perfect attendance (no absences, no tardies and no early outs) for the month. All of these students will receive a brag tag for perfect attendance this week! Congratulations to each and everyone of them as well as to all of YOU who made it happen!
Independent Study Contracts
If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:

  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office at least two weeks prior to the absence.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date..
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance and Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of our teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together. If you are requesting an independent study contract, please show us the same courtesy by spending the time on helping your child complete and return the assigned work upon his/her return to school.
Absent? Please contact the office
We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks we have in place. As well, please make plans for day trips to Disneyland and other places for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent from work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home to recover. Students must be fever, vomit and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or by calling the school office at: 714.963.8302 then press 1.

PTSA Spreading Love with our Love Signs
Spread a little love to your friends and neighbors this Valentine’s Day and support Hawes by purchasing new 2025 “We’ve been loved by a Hawes Hawk” yard signs for $10 each!

These signs are a great way to build community and spread the Hawes Hawk spirit! You can leave them on your friends and neighbors yards, and they come with a little sticker on the back so you can let them know who is spreading the love (or keep it anonymous!).

Let's spread a little love this winter along with our Hawes' Hawk School spirit! Signs will be picked up January 28th-30th.

Purchase your sign at the Hawes PTSA online store: https://hawesptsa.myshopify.com/products/2025-love-signs
