The Details for the Week:
Here are some of the key events and things to know:

Dance class is this week.

TK Holiday Sing: is Thursday at 11 am in the lunch area. Parents will need to enter through the office to sign in. Doors will not open for seating until 10:50 am. Please read your teacher's details about dismissal on this day.

End of attendance month 4: is Friday. Students who have no absences, no tardies and no early outs for this month will receive a brag tag when we return in January.

Winter Break: is scheduled from Dec 23 through January 3. School resumes on Monday, January 6, 2025.

GATE Testing (Grades 1-4):
If you are the parent of a first grader, you do not need to opt them in. You would only need to opt out if you don't want them tested. Please be on the lookout for these messages from our district.

If you are a parent of a student in 2nd - 4th grade, you must opt in to testing in order for your child to participate.

The deadline to opt in/out is this Friday, December 20.

December MegaSkills Family Activity Challenge is due this Friday. Students who submit their completed form will receive a brag tag for responsibility.
Playground Supervisors Needed
We are looking for people willing to serve as substitute playground supervisors as well as permanent playground supervisors. The hours for the positions are daily from 8:15 - 8:45 AND from 11 - 1:30 pm. If you are interested in being considered, please email Mrs. Jennings for more information. Thank you!
December MegaSkills Family Activity Challenge
This month we are focused on responsibility (doing what is right) and caring (showing concern for others). The activity challenge is due Friday and is also attached to the Enews. Counseling Corner
During the month of December, our school counselor will be teaching our Hawks about the importance of personal space and boundaries. Throughout the lessons, Ms. Samoniantz will be defining what personal space and boundaries are, tips on verbalizing our boundaries to others, and how to respect others' boundaries as well.

It is important for parents to have a discussion with your child about their own "personal space bubbles." Encourage your child to express their level of comfort to you in terms of physical proximity to others and their feelings about physical touch. It is also important for parents to speak with your child about boundaries and how to say “no” in a clear and polite way. Setting good examples at home by modeling and role playing with your child about personal space and boundaries can also help your child learn to establish good habits in a healthy way!

For more information on having discussions with your child about personal space and boundaries, read these tips on Personal Space.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our school counselor, Ms. Samoniantz, at asamoniantz@hbcsd.us.
Independent Study Contracts
If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:

  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office at least two weeks prior to the absence.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date..
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance and Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of our teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together. If you are requesting an independent study contract, please show us the same courtesy by spending the time on helping your child complete and return the assigned work upon his/her return to school.
Absent? Please contact the office
We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks we have in place. As well, please make plans for day trips to Disneyland and other places for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent from work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home to recover. Students must be fever, vomit and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or by calling the school office at: 714.963.8302 then press 1.
