School Information
The Details for the Week:
Here are some of the key events and things to know:

GATE testing information: If you have a student in 1st - 4th grade, please look for information regarding GATE testing in tomorrow's ParentSquare messages from the district office.

Art class is this week.

All School Assembly: is Friday at 8:45. We will be recognizing students from each class who have modeled for effort or focus. During this assembly, we are also recognizing students who participated in the PTSA Arts Reflection program.

End of attendance month 3: is Friday. We need your continued help and focus to help us meet our 98% in seat attendance goal for the year as well as to continue to decrease our chronic absenteeism rate. Students who have perfect attendance for this month will receive a brag tag when we return from Thanksgiving break.

Toys: Please remember that students should leave all toys - pokemon cards, stuffies, slime, etc. - at home and not bring them to school. If your student needs to bring a toy for the after school program, please ensure that the toy remains in their backpack all day.

Thanksgiving break: is next week! We hope you have a wonderful week off! Please know that we are grateful to each of you for being part of our community!
Be a good neighbor! Follow the rules of the road
As you drive through the school community at drop off AND dismissal, please help ensure that all of our students (and neighbors) are safe by remembering these key tips:

  • Be sure to stop at the stop sign and look both ways before proceeding! Rolling the stop sign at any corner during these times could result in an accident!
  • Do not stop or park in a crosswalk.
  • Parking in a red zone could result in a parking ticket.
  • Parking on the curved corner of the intersection is illegal and results in other drivers not having a clear line of sight. Please find a "real" spot for parking.
  • Please do not block the driveways of our neighbors.
Thank you for taking a few extra minutes to be a safe driver and one that understands that your actions impact the safety and well-being of others, specifically our students.
November MegaSkills Family Activity Challenge - due Friday
This month we are focused on effort (being willing to work hard) and focus (concentrating with a goal in mind). The activity challenge will be sent home this week and is also attached to the Enews. If you complete 4 activities and return the completed form to the classroom teacher, your child will earn a BRAG TAG for these traits!
Independent Study Contracts
If your child is going to be absent from school due to vacation/or travel for four (4) or more days, please contact the school office to request an Independent Study Contract. Please understand that we need at least two weeks prior to the start date of the absence in order to prepare materials. Here are some key points to remember:

  • Independent Study Contracts are requested through Monica Jagiello (mjagiello@hbcsd.us) in the office at least two weeks prior to the absence.
  • By law, the maximum number of days for an independent study are 15 days for the entire school year.
  • In order to receive credit for the absence, ALL work must be completed and returned by the due date..
  • Incomplete independent study contracts result in unexcused absences, which could result in a referral to the Student Attendance and Review Board (SARB).
  • Please be respectful of our teachers and staff who spend a great deal of time putting these contracts together. If you are requesting an independent study contract, please show us the same courtesy by spending the time on helping your child complete and return the assigned work upon his/her return to school.
Absent? Please contact the office
We encourage you to plan your trips over the scheduled breaks we have in place. As well, please make plans for day trips to Disneyland and other places for the weekend. We all understand how difficult it is when we are absent from work and the same holds true for students.

If your child is truly sick, please keep them home to recover. Students must be fever, vomit and diarrhea free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

If your child is absent from school, please report this absence by emailing: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us or by calling the school office at: 714.963.8302 then press 1.

PTSA Direct Donation Campaign
Congrats, Hawes Hawks! We've surpassed our goal of having 200 families donate (we've reached 239 out of ~400!) to our fundraising drive, so the whole school will get a popsicle party to celebrate! Now we just need to cross the finish line with our fundraising goal before the end of December! Our goal is to raise $50,000 (We're so close-92% there!). If you haven't made your donation yet, please make it today! We still have stuffies, tote bags, yard signs, and we are making tiles this Wednesday, 11/20.

We also still have a friendly classroom competition going on, and Mrs. Zankich's class is holding on to the top spot for the third week in a row! Can any class knock her class out of the lead?! Mrs. Tucker, Mrs. Volk, and Mrs. Arsenault are all sooooo close! Each week the class that has the highest percentage of families donating gets to spend the week with the large RalphE stuffie trophy! Get your donations in to help your class soar to the top!
